Alan Balfour
Chair/Associate Professor
Alan Balfour is chair of the Department of Management & Organization and is director of the Master of Science in Management: Leading Sustainable Enterprises program. He teaches graduate-level courses in leadership, managing international cultural differences, and social, ethical, legal systems. Balfour also teaches an undergraduate Honors College course in business ethics. He is the recipient of several teaching awards.His areas of expertise include leadership and employment relations. His work on labor law, unions, and collective bargaining is often cited in textbooks.
Balfour holds a masters and PhD degree from Michigan State University, a JD from the University of Michigan Law School, and a BA in Liberal Arts from Albion College. Balfour joined USF in 1980; prior to this he taught and held administrative positions at the University of Oklahoma, directed a research program for the State of Michigan, and worked in labor relations for Proctor & Gamble Co.
